A nigeria Popular tv sensation and comedian Usman Baba Pategi a.k.a. Samanja, a retired soldier who went into drama in 1985 after his service in the army get intervention from the Nigerian Army to aid his ailing condition.
The 79 years old man Samanja has been battling with liver problem and also been sick due to old age. He once received treatment in India before returning to Nigeria.
Samanja wife who was attending to his needs on the sick bed died, which also contributed immensely to his worsening health condition.
According to reports,it was learnt that he live from hand to mouth while struggling to stay alive, until Kwara State Governor, Abdulrazak Abdulrahman, came to his aid with a gift of N500,000 (five hundred thousand naira).
Then the health status of Samanja was brought to the notice of his colleagues in the army and, subsequently, the current Army chief, Faruk Yahaya, via a delegation, sent him the sum of N2M (two million naira) on Monday.
‘Samanja’ drama on NTA was rated as most watched in the early 80s, because he was the toast of television theatre fans across Nigeria, far beyond the targeted northern audience it initially covered.
